Not exactly Wirral, but near by. The building of the Runcorn Bridge. Health & Safety hadn't got there when this photo was taken. Makes me giddy just looking at it
Your joking... Health and Safety would have a field day. x
This is the Top Locks in Runcorn. It had a thriving barge and deep sea trade. A lot of it centered on ICI at Weston Point
What gets me is that they are wearing helmets! (Fat lot of good that would do 'em...!!!)

I think they are them fancy helmets with parachutes inside them...
I actually know someone who fell about a hundred feet and survived, he received the most horrific injuries as one could imagine, broke nearly every bone in his body and yet the damage he received to his head and brain which consequently causes him more life problems than anything else, they say had he been wearing a hard hat securely strapped could have prevented the damage to the head he received, so method in their madness and not so useless as one would think.
Good bit of info there Bert
The new Rucorn Bridge with the old Transporter Bridge still in place. The entrances to the old transporter bridge are still in place with a small gate keepers lodge on the Widnes side
