Ha Ha good stuff Paul, where did ya find them?
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Wiki_Advertisement - 18th May 2009 10:26pm
I have lots of them that I have acquired over time. I've been adding them to my site. Most are Wallasey but I have a fair few for the Wirral

Acedes cars - that's a new one !

I've quite a few car adverts from the 1920's in various old AA/RAC books. Bean, Clyno, Senechal, Contantinesco, Crossley etc.

Courtesy of Chris Kay, I'm collecting a scanner next week, so hopefully can add a few similar adverts in due course.

I have a feeling that Owen Owen's was next to Allanson's, where the shops were demolished in your other thread "Grange Shopping Centre". Can anyone confirm, or am I completely wrong?

Looking down Grange Road...as the picture shows 'Allansons' is the tall white building in the distance. The building still survives today as Beatties. The Owen Owen advert clearly shows a tall white building next to it...

Of course, I could be completely wrong: come on, some of my fellow old gits.

They are absolutely fantastic, in fact your site has been a constant source of interest and inspiration since I moved up to these parts - well done sir!

Love these old adverts. One of the nicest things about them is that there's not an aberrant apostrophe to be seen. (Ignore me; it's just one of my bêtes noires).

Thanks, jimbob; can't promise there'll be much left when I return it. (I can't help it if I'm an alumnus of Birkenhead School).

Only just saw this post today and I wondered the same thing.
According to dictionary.com:

14. British (in a restaurant or inn), a complete meal in which all courses are included at one fixed price, as opposed to à la carte service.
15. a restaurant, public house, or dining room serving all guests and customers the same standard meal or fare.
