A BBQ appeared to have started a grass fire that quickly spread to nearby bushes at New Brighton today. Two fire engines attended.

There's a distinct smell of fire in Pensby/Thingwall area. Drifting in from somewhere. Just wondering if it could be Helsby Hill, or even another one. Been about for appox an hour and half.

Vegetation is tinder dry. I've seen a few plumes of smoke today
over Wirral as well as smoke from the big fires on the moors.
We do need some rain but none in the forecast.

Yes, Bidston Hill had a fire as well and the Fire Brigade mentioned there had been a few fires here and there.

Watching the firemen at winter hill still using the fire beaters. Have they not come up with anything more effective. thinking along the lines of a fire blanket that could be rolled out along the edge of fire and then possibly flattened with roller of some kind or compacting plate.. Aware a lot has to do with remote locations.

At least two fires on bidston hill when I passed this morning.

Yes, beaters work really well, perhaps big shoes would make it easier?

Yep..we were evacuated from Dawpool School Fair where they were going to show the football on big screen. The little car park was evacuated. Fortunately the wind was blowing it more towards the coast and not the school but you could see the smoke billowing couple hundred yards away. Police shut the road through the sandstone cutting. Some bad parking in school lane was hindering the fire engine getting there. Hope the cottage loaf with its thatched roof is ok..

And Pinfold Lane, Meols had a fire today which I'm guessing was a grass/bush fire.

Oh well gives the fire brigade something to do other than sitting watching the football!!.....

Some idiot by Broadway Greasby burning rubbish in an incinerator on edge of field of tinder dry cut grass. my sister went to offer a bit of friendly advice "Got a bucket of water,.mind your own business ...i should be left to get on with my life without people interfering"" My sister should have replied.."was only checking on your sanity"
