Police hunting gang who raided Claughton Co-Op

MASKED raiders who stole thousands of pounds from a Wirral supermarket’s back room are being hunted by police.
Two men wearing ski masks targeted the Co-Op store, in Upton Road, Claughton, on Saturday as staff prepared to close.
They threatened a 24-year-old cashier with a concealed weapon and demanded she fill a bag with cash from the till.
The thieves then ordered her and a male shop worker, 26, to the back of the store while they stole money from a back office.

Police, who have called for witnesses, said the staff were “left feeling intimidated and scared by their ordeal”.

It is understood the men, who struck at 9.45pm, escaped with a “large quantity” of money, believed to be thousands of pounds.

Detective Inspector Mark Tivendale, of Birkenhead CID, said: “This was an incredibly frightening experience for these two young people who were just going about their work when these men have burst in.

“They appeared to have a weapon concealed in a bag and used it to intimidate the cashier into giving them all the cash in the tills.
“We believe the pair were helped by a third person who was waiting in a car outside, which they used to get away.
“The whole incident was over very quickly but must have been a terrible ordeal for the victims.”
The first offender, who was armed, was 5ft 8in, well-built and aged around 20. He was wearing a black Gore-Tex jacket, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.
The second man was a similar age, slightly shorter and slimmer and had distinctive brown eyes. He too wore dark clothing . Both men spoke with Merseyside accents.
Call CID on 0151-777 2265 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

And they knew there was money in the back? Hmmmmm!
Why don't these places have night safes in them so cash can just be dropped in and is unaccessable except by the proper persons? just a thought.
