Anyone know anything about the hookup thingy at campsites?
Posted By: StuyMac Re: Electrical Hook-ups - 28th Jun 2011 11:12am
What do you need to know?

Is it for a caravan? Tent?

I guess the direct answer to your question is "they provide electricity" grin

It's for fake campers wink

only kidding. Hookup your caravan/trailer tent and woohoo electricity...

For a tent - whats the difference when they say 6amp or 10amp - where do you buy the hook-ups from - they did not have them in Halfords or Argos. Any advice? It would be great to have a few small electrical items when we go camping.

Thats just the job, grab a bargain!

Its when you go to the campsites - they have a plugin thing there but mention 6 or 10 or perhaps even 15 no - amps or watts. Always used gas/burners for cooking - thinking about more convenience now. ie kettles n radio n stuff.

Thanks for the advice guys.

You might struggle with an electric kettle where there is low amps 6-10,but fine for radio tv smaller gadjets.

Yes normally but some campsites restrict the ampage so you can't run heavy duty appliances.

Campsites will usually put a 10amp mcb (fuse) at the other end of their hookup point. They dont mind you using the power for tv's and various other low draw appliances, but anything that generates heat will draw more amps such as hair dryers and kettles. So just dont bring a set of GHD straighteners or you'll be popping that fuse all day long!
