Would love some advice if poss please . Need to replace my old Epsom C64 stylus which was beautifully simple.

I just print off the odd sheet/ticket occasionally ,and maybe once a month need a couple of dozen at a time . Dont need high quality or photographs . More interested in simplicity of use and changing of cartridges. Mostly only need black but I believe most now require all cartridges full whether you do only black or not. Would like inexpensive cartridges or ability to use Cartridge World ones, and reliability of the machine. Would rather pay a little more for more reliability if its recognized , than go for a cheapy . If its just luck however, Id stick to cheapest simplest.
Any ideas please peeps?

Printers are pretty much throw away devices. They break you buy a new one for about £50

I wouldn't bog down on what printer more about how much are the replacement inks.

Had a kodak printer which was rubbish (lasted less than 12 months)-fortunately had taken the insurance policy for a couple of quid took it back to PC World and they recommended Hewlett Packard. Got the HP Photosmart 5515 which has been fine and does wireless printing etc etc. Ink isnt that cheap but if only using occasionally that shouldnt be a problem.

See if they do a replacement insurance-- think i paid an extra £5

I have similar sounding use with an occasional page and monthly a couple of dozen pages. The rare photo but other than that all just black.I have a Canon Pixma MP230 which cost £39.99 just about 2 years back, it is also a scanner. Uses just one black and one colour cartridge.Touch wood it has been trouble free.I get the cartridges on line from Cartridge World or whoever has the best offer at the time.I have tried compatible in the past and always regretted it no matter which printer I have had so now only buy branded ones which cost around £12 each and can be got in Tesco and other places.

Yes Mark , our throw away society brings tears to my eyes . The last printer I was lucky. Got it on Freecycle along with a bag of ink cartridges ,it worked for a few weeks, paid £20 to local engineer to clean out the ink reservoirs , and it worked beautifully for over another 18 mths . This time though I agree it wont be worth it.
Thanks Fish , Ill start my short list off with that one.

I have used Epson printers for years, they have been reliable and a good work horse both in the home and the office. The later ones are smaller and more compact. I find a Wifi enabled model is a must. I print to mine from my PC and iPad. The inks are reasonably priced and last a good year.

Dont come much cheaper eh , Zippy? My inherited ones were compatibles and Ive found them till now !
Thanks Lord Thomas but Ihave to be warier of oldish ones now as my engineer who cleared the ink reservoirs has moved away and its normally not a cheap job when done professionally .

Hi mate. Get a laser jet black printer this is ideal and it's on the Wirral. Toner will last for years, prints really quickly and high quality. And it's network or USB.

Ps this model was used by the entire NHS trust a year ago, probably still is. Next time your at the docs I bet he has a brother printer!

Got to agree with TCL; if printing irregularly, and mostly black and white text, laser is the way to go.

Then, if you ever need to print in colour, just pop down to the library.

Tesco Direct have one for £39: http://www.tesco.com/direct/ricoh-s...3-1377.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=243-1377

If Argos is closer (or you've nectar points to spend): http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1472912.htm

OEM cartridges are ~£65, but refill kits with reset chips are available from ebay for <£20.

Hm, the laser does seem the way to go for me. Ive been reading how people get caught out buying a recommended printer that gives the longest lasting cartridges , only to find later than the same models are heavier on ink than the less economical ones if they are not used regularly. At least that wouldnt happen (would it?) with a laser one.
How easy is it to deal with refill kits, and what do you have to do with the reset chips - is it techy?

Thanks Pob. Sorry for the delay , other stuff got in the way. Looked at these , but decided you probably get what you pay for to some extent and I can afford a little more. I like the idea that NHS chose' Brother' machines --- so looked in that direction.

What do you lot think of this one Ive seen on Amazon?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-HL-1110-Mono-Laser-Printer/dp/B00EKF2D24

or is buying this sort of thing online dodgy and I would be better getting from the likes of Currys or the like where I can easily take it back and complain if it conks out during guarantee?

Actually, this one at Currys looks pretty much the same although a slightly different number or am I missing anything significant please/?
