iv just got a new notebook on windows 8.1 and im trying to get my head round it and need some advice please, iv already stored my anti virus via chrome as that's the browser im used to but I also want to enjoy some of the other benefits of internet explorer so do I have to install my anti virus through IE as well?

Hi rocks, no you don't. It makes no difference as long as it is installed, download and install classic shell http://www.classicshell.net

This will give you a windows 7 desktop experience with classic start button.

thanx for replying so quick, glad i dont have to install it again and thanx for the clicky but iv never used a windows 7 iv jumped from vista to W8 smile

Does 8.1 need antivirus as it comes with windows defender iirc

When Windows has such a wonderful reputation for being Hack proof who would need another Firewall/Virus Checker.

i did find the icon for that before when i was having a play about so i'll check it tomoz and switch it off as iv just checked my usual lappy and id turned it off on there, thanx for the info jdemo smile

Windows vista and 7 visually where very similar, all the differences were under the hood, mainly in performance.

In order to make 8 usable the first thing I did was get rid of the metro screen in favour of the desktop. I also needed a start button to quickly navigate around my files etc. Classic she'll simply does these two tasks. Along with a few other tweeks. Windows 8 is very good with a few mods!
