HI,
A bit of advice please smile
I have an Asus laptop but regularly take it up and down stairs while I'm doing the housework. The AC adapter is usually upstairs but if I'm going to use the laptop downstairs I unplug the adapter and plug and plug it into the socket downstairs. Last night I found in my box of electrical bits and pieces a spare adapter and plug. When I looked at the back of both adapters there was a bit of difference.
ASUS adapter - Input - AC100-240V ~ 50-60Hz 2.0A
" " - Output - +19V-----3.42A LPS

Other Adapter - Input - 100-240V ~ 1.2-0.58A 50-60Hz
" " - Output - 24V----2.5A

The question is - if I plug my laptop into this adapter will it work or will it damage it?
Many thanks

No, it will damage your laptop, if it was 19v 4amp and the plug was the correct polarity then you could make it work, you can get power supplies for laptops quite cheaply even some car-boots have them.

Listen to what he says, don't use it! You need to get a match on the output.

Thanks guys I was half tempted to just try it and see but won't now. I've found another one which has input - 100-240V ~ 1.5A 50/60Hz Output 19V ---3.42A.
Is this any use or should I throw both away?

That would work but check the polarity of the plug to what is mentioned on the laptop + or - and give it a general inspection for safety or go and visit the Doc. laugh

I would be tempted to give it a whirl smile not an expert in this area though. Be warned!

I can highly recommend this, we buy lots in bulk as our users keep damaging or losing their original ones:

Thank for that, I think I'll get the eBay one, at least it shouldn't blow up my laptop!
