Am thinking of going to buy the S5 to replace my S3, I notice the S5 is 4G, I can i use my 3G sim in it and still use the internet.

Yes, that should be fine as i think they both use micro sim.

Thanks.

You don't know any where that sells them cheaper than £499 at car phone warehouse do you.

And do sim free ones from car phone warehouse still have cpw firmware rather than samsung firmware.

One for sale on the for sale forum for £390 brand new unwanted contract upgrade Clicky

And yes 3g sim will work fine. Just internet wont be as fast thats all.

May i add its a phenomenal phone. I've got one. Much better than any apple counterpart.

Personally I would save myself £200+ and buy a nexus 5. None of that bloatware that Samsung put on their phone. Ux is likely to be much smoother and will get android updates much quicker with better integration to Google

If am going to be spending that amount on a phone, I would rather buy it new from shop, as I have bought phones before that where unwanted contract upgrade, and they ended up getting blocked, and there is no comeback.
Am defo getting one, but carphone warehouse take of original samsung firmware and put there own on it, which stops you getting updates from samsung, you have to wait until car phone warehouse release there update.

They wont tell you this if you ask them, they just say yes its sim free, but it most defo is not, they are branded with cpw firmware.
Argos have none in, phones for you like to mess with the firmware aswell.

fair enough.

can you not buy them from Samsung direct? click here

mine's on EE and there's nothing that EE have put on it apart from a MYEE app which is actually really useful for checking how much usage you have left etc etc.

all phones come out of the factory pretty much blank, i don't see how CPW can put stuff on them when the boxes are security sealed by Samsung themselves :S

Cpw do put crap on them.
Ithe manager confirmed it to me in wallasey store today.
I asked sales women who said no they dont when I said I will buy one but if its been messed with and shows cpw product code on firmware I will be bringing it back for refund.
she ask manager and I was told yes they do install stuff on phones.

am trying to get blue one but all argos stores sold out back in in 7 days

Finally got one reserved for tomorrow morning at Cheshire oaks
Posted By: j_demo Re: Galaxy S5 - 23rd Jun 2014 6:50pm
congrats

maybe it's all wireless but i was aware that samsung make them, naturally, and then box them up and put a security sticker on so they can't be removed from the box and messed with...

i wanted a blue one, but then got hold of one and it looked actually quite a 'cheap' shade of blue... if that makes sense?

eventually got the white one. best decision ever.

I'm some what baffled by this post regarding the removal of Samsung firmware to carphone warehouse "crap" on it as you put it.
I have the s5 s3s4 all from the cpw no evidence of tampering to alter firmware all updates working fine from Samsung,
we are picking up another s5 this week from cpw.
I shall mention this post to the manager I have dealt liscard since it opened

Good choice willo. I've got the s5, moved from iPhone 5 and I'm glad I did. I like it a lot better. I got the blue one too think it looks the best thought the gold looked tacky. But it doesn't really matter what colour because you can buy the different colour backs and change them in 2 seconds. I was advised only buy the genuine backs or your warranty for it being water resistant will be void

I don't know about CPW but many large suppliers do provide a CFW. I personally don't see it as a big deal as the first thing I would do is root and re flash. That's the major plus point of android devices.

List of firmwares

CPW will be at end of firmware version, no matter which smart phone you buy from car phone warehouse, I dont know how they are allowed to sell them like this, they are putting a restriction on your phone that is meant to be sim free, you can not update your phone untill cpw release there firmware update, so while every one else can get the latest firmware from there phone manufacturer, you will not get it until cpw tell you you can have it.
