I have been offered a pc with the following spec for £90

Windows 7
Intel Dual Core E6420 2.13GHz
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
Graphics card: GeForce 7300 LE

Compared to mine
Mine comes with all recovery discs, his does not.
Dell 530
Windows Vista
Intel Core2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz 2200 MHz
3GB RAM
500GB HDD
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5450

My graphics card has HDMI port, the pc am offered does not, however i can keep my own and he takes the nvidia one out of his and knocks £10 of price.

If you had the choice of either of these which one would you take.

When it comes to pc cpu specs and graphics cards am lost.

Your PC seems better than the one you're interested in. It has a better graphics card and faster processor.

It comes down to if you want to pay £90 for a newer version of Windows and 1GB more of RAM. Personally, I wouldn't.

If your PC is being slow and that's the reason you're looking to buy a new one, download and install programmes such as 'lavasoft ad aware', 'spybot search and destroy' or 'hijackthis'. They'll speed the PC up.

I agree with BlueLou. You could get a second hand graphics card and extra memory and copy of Windows 7 far cheaper.

I'd probably just start with replacing Vista for Windows 7 or 8 (with Classic Shell of course) and you'll see an instant performance boost.

Preliminarily on the specs you have given

There is not much difference between the CPU's, the 6420 is slightly better on paper, but only a small bit, certainly not enough to warrant a swap.

CPU Comparison:

Your 5450 Gfx card is far better than the 7300.
GFX Comparison:

The only extra to what you have is the extra ram and Windows 7 (depending on which version)

Personally I would not bother, but it depends on what you want the swap for.

BlueLou is right though, the amount of garbage installed can make a huge difference to your speeds.

I would also recommend CCleaner, Autoruns and a decent browser with an ad blocker.

If you need any help let me know smile
