Can I ask are you using Realtek AC'97

linky poos

Before you download, unistall all drivers and devices related to the Realtek AC'97. After download, extract all and then open 6213_Vista_APO. Scroll down until you see 'setup' (Application 59KB) and click on it. Let it do it's thing and Windows will recognize the device but DO NOT let Windows install the driver, let the Realtek setup. When it is complete, it will prompt to restart, so do it.

let us know how you do.

ps got to pop out be back about 4pm smile

The Mute when used does not always Mute the main windows setting say only Youtube.

1. Check the Volume Setting in Youtube (When you see a video)
2. Check system volumes.

Rebooting your computer can also reset the volumes.
So give that a try.

Normally i would try playing a song through media player to make sure media volumes were ok.
Not sure what I am supposed to be downloading,on the little speaker icon on task bar if I right click it brings up a box saying"Realtek HD Manager",this is where I can use TEST.

sounds like one of your games have knock your sound out {bio shock) does this sometimes)

Just do the following:
Control panel>Hardware And Sound>Sound>right click inside white box and click show disabled devices>click the recording tab>right click the one that's disabled (stereo mix or CD audio both work) and enable it smile

Do you think it would be worth buying a sound card?
I have solved it(by luck to be honest)Control Panel>sound, disabled realtek High Def and then I had sound, thanks to everyone who helped.
