Am looking at buying a ipad from ebay, never used one of these, and i know nothing about them, so just a few questions. If some one could advise please.

What kind of price is acceptable for a ipad 2 wifi + 3g.

If I buy one could it get blocked like phones can.

What to look out for, any known issues etc etc.

Is there a big difference in ipad 1 and ipad 2

If your buying one from eBay search nearest first, that way you can pick it up and check it over over and if anything goes wrong you know where they live. As for price not to sure, check the completed listings to see what they have gone for. Since I got mine I very rarely use my laptop.

Acceptable price : As with anything it depends what you're willing to pay. I've know people sell them for a £100 (don't touch, likely to be hot) or get people who want one so much they pay more than a new one. The 3G is more desireable that the WiFi as you can use it anywhere, although I just have Personal Hotspot activated on my iPhone so never use the 3G on mine.

I've had the 1,2 & now the 3. My laptop is almost redundant. I still have a heavy duty base unit for other work, but most day to day stuff I use the iPad for.

A Wifi one cannot get blocked, a 3G one can, but they can only block the 3G functionality of it.

iPad 1 is noticeably slower than the iPad 2, the 2 has cameras front and rear and graphics are superior. You can also use FaceTime on the iPad 2

Issues, just check that the screen is in good order, it responds to touch, no cracks, it's not lifting out of the casing. You "could" take along a lttle auroscope if you're fussy and check to see if the water damage indicaters (middle of the charging socket, bottom of the headphone jack) have been activated (it's been wet).

If you want one locally I know of a certain shop that has one in (3G & WiFi 16GB) for £275 and I know they'll do it for £250 for Wiki members smile

What does that come with?

The iPad comes with a USB data cable to connect to your PC (it won't charge from your PC, USB ports are only 500mA)

A mains to USB adapter/plug (2000mA, new replacement, not an Apple one)

It's just had a new Digitizer/Touch fitted as the old one had a chip in it, it's white.

I can probably sort you out a screen protector as well

If you wanted something else for it let me know and I can pick it up for you at cost tomorrow.

Can you just confirm this is the ipad 2.
I would pm you, but i dont think your pms are working laugh as you never replie to them.

I would like an original charger, as i dont like using replacement copy chargers on devices. But surpose i can get one from ebay

It is definitely an iPad 2

You're not the first one to say I don't get my pm's smile

The replacements I use are fine, you'll find most of the "original" chargers on eBay are copies anyway, and the word "genuine" just means that it's a real charger laugh

Some of the USB adapters are only 1000mA, great for charging iPhones, not much use with an iPad (well, they do work, but it takes all night).

I think it's locked the "3", which is the only network ever tried in it.

If you have an iPhone you can just buy the wifi version of the iPad and use the iPhones personal hotspot facility to get a 3G connection.

You don't get personal hotspot on all networks. I have a 4 and a 5. 4 is on voda 5 is on EE. 5 does not have hotspot

My 5 on EE (through Orange) has PH.

All you need to is phone them up to activate it and then go to settings, general, mobile data and turn it on. Then it appears in the main list with wi-fi etc.

Go on, try it...

Oh and I can't see that anyone has mentioned the other fundamental difference between the 3G and the Wifi only...

GPS.

You can use the 3G version as sat nav.
