ive been given an ACER ASPIRE 5335 laptop which has a broken screen, i thought i'd be able to attach a monitor via a vga cable and use that as a screen. i get the vista progress bar on the monitor as i boot up, but as soon as the laptop screen is on , the monitor goes into standby.

any ideas, just want to make sure its worth forking out for new screen

Try holding down F8 when it boots.

Then select SAFE MODE.

The chances are the laptop's resolution and or frequency isn't compatible with your external monitor.

Hiren's boot disc has a couple of Windows password removal discs included that are compatible with Vista...
