I want to upgrade my new laptop from 4gb to 8gb RAM.

There are two slots, each with a 2gb Stick. I want to put two 4gb sticks in.

Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy quality ram and how much could i get for the two sticks of 2gb?

Will it make much difference to a 1.3ghz dual core system?

Will it make any difference: Not a bit. You'll never notice the increase. Running a dual core getting more memory won't change anything unless you're rendering graphics or something.

Does the laptop accept 8gb? Dual core is 6 generations old now, most didn't accept more than 4gb max.

Either way, you're looking at ebuyer.com for the cheapest. No where really does too much cheaper than them.

Crucial's website will let you know exactly what your model will take, if it's possible, in increased RAM memory and give you the correct model/part numbers.
You can then do a search on ebay for the best value supplier of the modules.

If you find out your laptop wont take 8gb when you have used the crucial scanner, go to your manuafacture web site and update bios,
mine said it would only take max 2gb, i updated bios, it now says it will take 8gb.

I would buy your 4gb, if its the correct one for my laptop.
Crucial says 8gb is fine. About £35inc vat. Not too bad but I dont want to fork out if its not going to make much difference.

The Laptop runs GTA:SA and Resident Evil 4 no problems and im not interested in using it for brand new games such as COD or anything. If it wont make much difference, then i suppose there is no point in upgrading!

Well if you did intend to play anything half-recent you'd have to change laptop. Adding memory wouldn't do squat, you're severely limited by the CPU, not RAM.
Im not looking to play anything super modern. I prefer my older games like Deus Ex (Plays great on this) and GTA:SA (Plays pretty well)

Anything <2005. Ive got my 360 for COD etc, this is for games I loved back in the day or ones I may have missed.

Ill leave it as it is unless I come across an issue.

cheers.

Deus Ex still gets a play through from me at least once a year. Love that game to pieces. Gone through it without getting any kills yet? Makes it much more interesting.
Only ever played it on PS2 and watched my mate play it on PC back in the day. I played through stealthily but still killed a good few.

What a game. Have you installed the HD graphics mod for it?

^ That.

Its like replacing the conveyor belt in a factory, you will still be limited to the speed of the people processing what's been sent down it smile

I have not! Perhaps I should look into it this time around. I'm gonna be offline for a couple weeks so will need something to occupy my time.
Im gonna install it tonight, looks great. Makes it look a lot cleaner etc.

Just as an addition if you are running a standard edition of windows (32-bit) it wont see the memory beyond 4 gb
You would have to install a 64-bit version to get the benefit of the 8 gb

oops meant to add this link to show it (a bit techy)
