I have a problem with this a Belkin N1 http://www.belkin.co...oduct_Id=377018 along with 10meg of Virgin Media and since the Christmas holiday period it has constantly been disconnecting` had the same problem a while ago too but the problem went away before I could fix it,this time i`ve tried
1 .. updating the router but there`s none available
2 .. Restored to factory settings
3 .. switched off guest access which only allowed the laptop and main PC to connect as apposed to my daughters Iphone and me lads Play Station
4 .. Setting up new Network and connecting the Router to the Laptop manually and Laptop to router as there seems to be many ways to connect
But the problem still remains
Will have another bash at it tomorrow,
I wonder if anybody else is having problems
To be honest i have had a problem like this for at least 5 months now.

It only seems to be when there are a lot of wireless devices connected at once and the wireless signal dies. But it will still be ok if something is wired.

It is very irritating. I have to switch the router off for 20 seconds and back on and it will work fine.

It used to disconnect if i downloaded anything at high speed, but now it seems multiple connections is the cause.

I havent an idea why, sorry i couldnt help solve your problem, but your not the only one with this kind of problem!

Hi

Same thing has been happening to me using the 10meg Virgin service.

Phoned Virgin last month and was told that the problem was with my router and since it's not a Virgin router they refused to help.

I also noticed that when the connection died the on-line light on the TV box went off also, so I don't think it's the wireless connection.

They did something to my box while I was on the phone and it seems to be better. I used to have to reboot the router at least once a day but now it's about once a week.

Sorry I can't help but it appears to be a common problem, just have a look at the Virgin support forums.

If your TV box is going off as well, the problem is the line. You need to report this to Virgin and get them to send an engineer out.

You guys are using 10mb broadband so you'll be getting throttled and slowed down whenever you download, if you want to get around that you need to buy a higher level of their service (the XXL doesn't get throttled).

As for the router, ditch Belkin and get a decent make. Belkin suck and that N1 has some pretty bad reviews. I remember getting one when they first came out and sent it back within a couple days. How are you connected to this router? Wirelessly?>
I disagree. I have several routers. The Belkin n1 is one that I own. If you are a regular user this router is fine. if you host servers or anything like this with constant 24/7 up and down traffic then it will fail every 24 hours as will most routers. (home not business)

I have a d-link router here. I use it as a spare. Yours for 20 quid.

Ps u say the talkback light goes off on your tv, that would indicate a line fault but if a reboot of your router fixes things ten I would say there is some interference. Probably a virgin issue

It runs fine most of the time every now and then it starts to play up,I have it plugged in to the Virgin Cable Modem my main Pc is plugged into the Belkin as is the PlayStation` however the Laptop has a wireless connection which is temperamental the whole network crashes sometimes,I notice it more so when lookin at vids on Stumbleupon.com` maybe its just a busy time of the year and like you say am getting throttled(would this course it to disconnect) in which case I will upgrade but not until I know for sure.
Windows7 is upto date
Norton int/sec 2011

Thanks for the input everyone appreciate it
I had two Belkin routers - both had same problem
Im on Virgin too
I now have a Netgear (DGND3700) and have had no problem since I changed
On both Belkins the IP was still being routed but the DNS failed - so no devices or addresses could be resolved. I suspected an overflowing routing table...but no way for me to find that out..
Two friends had same problem with Belkins too..I like Belkin normally but wont be buying a Belkin router again.

richiemuck Cheers, Am tempted to upgrade my broadband to 20meg and see if they give me a wireless router thrown in since they wont support my own,Someone mentioned something about a fixed IP is that what your saying? would a fixed address help or not?

Ok. It sounds to me like you're getting throttled when you try to stream and it's dcing you.

I'd suggest getting rid of Norton and see if that solves the problem. Norton is god awful and there's nothing worse than it when it comes to any kind of security or antivirus protection. You'll be fine with the firewall on the router and MSE which you already have.
I just bought a netgear srxn 3205, I get full strength wifi all through the house, 5ghz dual band. My 50 meg downloads now at 6.8mbps. Lovely. Fastest it's ever been. Plus it's gigabit so I get full speed between comps.

Love it
ex0 I will give it a go ... Cheers
