I got Matt (my 17yr old son with aspergers) a new desktop for christmas last year, currys had a great deal on it on the day...for this christmas, he wanted to upgrade the graphics card so he could use it on his HD tv (the widescreen isn't enough apparently [Linked Image])

Got a graphics card off a fellow wikimember the other day, took the tower cover off last night and there's no slot on the motherboard to insert it into!!!!
Matt is devestated frown

Other than buying a whole new motherboard, is there anything I can do?
The comp is this: Compaq SG3 110uk, the specs can be found here
(I've tried looking into it via this page
The graphics card I want to upgrade it to is a 9800gt HDMI

any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I think its going to have to be a new motherboard, but make sure the new one you get has the right connection for your new card.
I think there is 2 types AGP and PCI.

The motherboard you have appears to use PCI Express x1 slots (2 of them, just to confuse you further) and the graphics card is PCI Express x16 (much faster than x1, 8x faster, just to confuse you more).

If you want that card to work it'a a motherboard change, sorry.

If you want to get another card you need one with a x1 interface such as Amazon , this is just an example of what you need to look for.

thought so tbh.
thank you so much, both of you, for your advice, really do appreciate it. Its my own fault, I should've researched it before getting the card.
I might save it for my own desktop.

And thanks Doc for the link, will bookmark and see if he wants to order that.
