I tried a 160 gb one and could also only use 16gb, I don't get it? It has a large one in it already but wanted an external one, hardly worth it just for 16gb though
Found the following comment in relation to fitting large drives ...
"This depends if you have either a softmod or a hardmod.
Softmod - Requires the hard drive image to be created using a special unix loader disc and a PC and then copied onto the new HDD and then install it into the XBOX.
Hardmod aka chip - Very easy, pop in your new drive and load a xbox mod disc (ie slayers evox installer)
To fit the drive takes about 15 mins in total and is very easy. head over to xbox scene for the guides"

I have my old Xbox hard drive in mine 120gb, so easy to do. I did post a post in hear some were on how to do it, that video what beer money has posted is the one to follow.

I think you have to format it first. Not sure if Xbox let's you do that?
