Hi,

Today I brought aa pc game from "GAME" called dead island.

I checked the specs since I was going to use it on my laptop

My laptop "comes from another planet" so no problem on the required specs

When I install it , the only things that seem to be installed is the "steam" software and directx plus the icons on the screen

when I try to run the game it wants to download a 6GB file via stream - surely the game must be on the original disk

I use a dongle which has a 15GB monthly allowance so this game would use a third of that just to load the files.

Can I take the game back and ask for my money?

Nomad

i doubt it , somewhere on the package it should state that the download is needed surely

"Game" says that it should be returned unopened,

On the min specs required it does not mention internet

There is a steam logo above this, really wish I had seen it, although I do have a steam account I tend to boycott games using it

Dead Island Minimum System Requirements

OS: Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7
CPU: Intel Core2Duo 2.66 GHz
RAM: 1 GB Memory
GFX: Nvidia GeForce 8600GT or ATI 2600XT 512MB
DX: DirectX 9.0C
HDD: 2.0 GB free hard drive space
Other: mouse and keyboard

Dead Island Recommended System Requirements

OS: Windows 7
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66GHz / AMD Athlon II X2 240
RAM: 4 GB RAM
GFX: GeForce 9600 GT 512MB / Radeon HD 3870

These are the FULL requirements for runiing Dead Island, and even includes the fact that you need a keyboard and a mouse, so it would appear that an internet connection is not required, or if it is, has not been mentioned.

If they haven't included that you need an internet connection to run this game, and you do, then it has been missold and you are entitled to a full refund, and don't let Game give you any of the "well it's been opened" rubbish, if it didn't tell you until you loaded it up that you had to download it then you HAD to open to find out. You can't add extra conditions once you've accepted the ones they offered, so you can't be responsible for not knowing that you needed to download until you opened and installed the game.

If you DO decided you want to keep it and don't want to kill your dongle I have 100MB unlimited at my place so as long as it's just a one-off to get it I have no problem with you using it smile
Your quite right, the min spec and recommended spec don't mention that an internet connection is required. Take it back and say its not fit for purpose, sale of goods act etc etc blah blah.

Minimum:
OS: Windows XP
Processor: Core2Duo 2.66 GHz
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: ATI 2600XT 512MB VRAM (GeForce 8600GT)
DirectX®: DirectX 9.0C
Hard Drive: 7 GB available hard drive space
Other: keyboard, mouse

Recommended
OS: Windows 7
Processor: Core2Duo 2.66 GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: GeForce 9600 (1GB)
DirectX®: DirectX 9.0C
Hard Drive: 7 GB available hard drive space
Other: keyboard, mouse

Rhoobarb, your a star, I will give that a go tomorrow.

Thanks everyonr for advice,

It does require internet because of the steam account but they failed to mention it on the requirements.

I know with steam games that you can play thrm in an off line mode but my problem was just trying to install it onto my hard disk.

its on the to do list first thing in morning

Thanks guys
