What's the difference ?

If someone was to ask you what's the difference ?
What do you use twitter for ?
What do you use Face Book For ?

And what are the pro's and cons and what should you be aware of?

My attempt to use members experiences to guide the inexperienced, as our forum does support twitter and facebook links, but i only have limited knowledge.

I'm not on any of them so i have no idea, but it seems to me some people think the world revolves around them, modern times i suppose.

Facebook is by far the biggest social networking site out there. It has more of a connecting feel amongst "friends" ie chat boxes and applications. Twitter is limited to 140 letters and is often used for announcements ie (hyper)link to news or events. Occassionally there is the passing opinion or thought of the day.

In truth, they are actually different tolls with different objectives, however to generalise them, facebook is better for personal/wacky/childish use, twitter is better for business/professional use.

A lot of facebookers, are moving over to twitter and gradually using facebook less and less as it becomes full of kids, spammers, scammers and attention seekers - much the same as happened to piczo, bebo and myspace before it.

Having said that, Facebook is a much better tool for tracking down old friends etc, and twitter does have its share (increasingly) of attention seekers. Facebook is also better for updating your friends and family on your life, through photos, videos and of course longer 'status' posts.

Personally, I don't use either a great deal, though I have accounts on both. Id say I probably use Facebook more often though it gets irritating reading the pathetic attention-seeking status's people seem to post every few minutes. Ive removed quite a few 'friends' because I get sick of seeing them post shite all day long (wouldnt mind if they were jokes). I think Twitter has a limited longevity of usage, unless you get really stuck into it and like listening to celebrities rant about things haha!

Both very different in my opinion, and both have their uses, Its very easy to tweak your settings so you dont see the mindless drivel of those who annoy you with their never ending minute by minute diary of their day including when they drink tea smoke a ciggy etc,
I have different levels of people on there, some can see all my profile and pics others cant, takes 5 mins to personalize all the settings so you can keep things between you, i keep in daily contact with relatives in australia and america, where i wouldnt otherwise be able, its very handy and convenient,

I have both but use them very differently.
I find Twitter a great way for organisations to communicate with me: I 'follow' organisations like Mersey Travel, Wirral Borough Council, various theatres etc. I get an instant update to my phone when they update. For excample: Mersey Travel were excellent for updating services news during the snow. It's also a great way of getting instant news straight off the street IMO.

I use FB for fun and communicating with people. For those who complain that all they get is a constant stream of rubbish - maybe you need to address the quality of your 'friends' or hide their updates. happy

I use Twitter to announce news that relates to Wallasey whereas I use FB simply to post Wallasey Memories. Each to their own.

I'm another that has both, but uses them differently.

Facebook for keeping in touch with friends and family. Twitter mainly for competitions.

For personal promotion, e.g. freelancers, LinkedIn is probably a better choice than both.

I also have a tumblr account. This is roughly somewhere between Twitter, MySpace and Blogger (formerly BlogSpot).

Facebook for me is for friends and family to keep in contact easily, also use it for darts news etc.

Twitter is celebrity stalking, and gives me a giggle.
