You need a vivo card mate.
Graphics card with video in and out, also some video editing software like Sony Vegas or pinnacle pro, for a novice I'd recommend camastasia studio, really easy to use.
I think I have an ati vivo card from my old desktop somewhere, as I only use laptop now I no longer require it, I'll see if I can fish it out for you.

It's easy mate, just like plugging your blu-ray player into your tv.
Basically the software is your record button then you output it to the media of your choice ie: DVD then hit produce and put it to disc.

Hi Johncon. Do you mean the old 8 and 16mm film type video. If so you need someone with a high definition scanner (these are specific types - not the same as the A4 size ones)and it needs to be done frame by frame. This is time consuming, but there are companies that specialise in this. Just google cine to dvd. Regards.
