Its wierd, it came with a blu-ray disc which worked but when i put paranormal activity in it wouldn`t play due to the copy protection.
After about an hour of messing around, i got powerdvd with which it runs perfect now.

I would of thought it would of came with some bluray software though! omg

I can lob this powerdvd 10 on a card for you if you want wheels?

If you're into your downloads, check on the internet for MKV files; torrent sites and the like. I struggle to tell the differnece between a 7GB MKV and a BluRay.

I purchased a LG blue-ray player that offered mkv/divx/avi support. Found that it would pixelate on certain MKVs. Took it back to Richer Sounds who told me that they heard the same story five years ago when DVD players were offering DIVX support. I told them that my desktop comp played all the MKVs I was trying to play on the blue-ray player.

Ended up getting a refund and building my own home theatre PC. Cost three times the price, but was defo the better choice. If new formats come out, I just update my software player.

These ICE boxes are meant to be ok for the price. Have a look on Dabs.

What you need is a private torrent site, not pirate bay an the likes. Gives a more through breakdown of the files and shows what types you want ie Blueray/dvd etc.

Unfortunately, LG have (imho) lost their way a bit since the the breakdown of the LG-Philips partnership, their products nowadays seem to be not much better than cheap no-branded tat that you can buy in the likes of Asda etc... it does appear that Philips were the brains (and indeed they were the money) behind the apparent success of LG during the 2000's.

Personally, when it comes to Blu-ray, Sony or Panny only for me, unless you want to go to a higher level such as Denon, and even then id probably prefer a Sony unit. Panasonic Blu-ray recorders ftw when it comes to Blu-ray, even if they arnt the fastest at loading a disc, at least they are compatible with everything!!

It was the same old story for cheap tat DVD players that offered DivX support - they were riddled with problems and a lot were useless. Never had a single problem with my Toshiba DVD-Recorder has never had any issues playing back any DivX content, and its a DR17DT so its not exactly a new unit.

Beware also of premium brand licensing out their branding for cheap shite brands to use on their products as well; there are many brands at the moment who make really good high end products, yet the "cheap" products you see in the shops are usually made by some unknown and are essentially the same models as the no-brand models (Hitachi and Wharfedale spring to mind straight away).

The one thing that suprised me about the LG player was the USB reader on the front....Great I thought, that will save me some hastle and there is the network port on the back. No need to burn as many disks....but oh no!

Until I found out that the network was only for firmware updates and watching you tube. It couldn't act as a client on an MS network.

The USB functionality could only read sticks formatted to FAT32. Max file size is then 4GB. Utter useless considering most DVDs are 4.7/8.5!
