The Irish broadcaster Setanta Sports has gone into administration after failing to make a number of payments to sporting organisations.

Setanta has now stopped broadcasting to customers in Great Britain, but the administrator Deloitte said it would continue to operate elsewhere.

They said they would immediately stop collecting subscription payments.

About 200 employees involved with the British operations will be made redundant, the firm said. Setanta had a total of 420 employees in the UK and Ireland.

"This is a sad day for all concerned," said Sir Robin Miller, chairman of Setanta. "Unfortunately, in a difficult and highly competitive market, and despite strenuous efforts by the board and management, it has not been possible to find sufficient additional funds in the time available to ensure its survival."

Good riddance imho!! Now, hopefully, Sky can back to a level playing field with Virgin, ESPN won't be so stupid as to let them give it to their customers for pennies. And hopefully in the future, there will be some lesson's learnt by the EU from the fiasco. The competition ruling against sky, was never good for either consumer (it simply increased the cost of watching football, ahving to subscribe to two seperate services) or football itself (it nearly fell victim to this crap).

I notice LFC TV & ESPN America (formally NASN) are still broadcasting even though part of Setanta Package. But ultimately what is going to happen to these channels (along with Arsenal TV & Racing UK which are alos part of Setanta Package)

LFC TV is supposed to cease broadcasting shortly on TV for the forthcoming future, it will be strictly online-only, until they make new arrangements.

The problem is, LFC TV, isnt made or owned by LFC, it is simply a brand licensed to Setanta, and iirc, Setanta produce and transmit the channel.

They will probably pay for ongoing production out of their own pocket, as they have sold it as part of the eSeason Ticket, though the quality is sure to decline; as for the TV side of things, I can't really see LFC, who were getting paid a few million a year, suddenly turning around and paying out for broadcast capacity, especially with the fnancial problems they have and a general lack of interest in the channel.
