I am racking my brains for the best solution.
My home user has a wireless router, the range doesn't quite extend to the lounge. She had a wireless access point connected to the network with cables to extend the wireless connection. It has proved to be quite unreliable and seems to have given up completly.
Are there any other reliable makes or solutions available to me? Only other thing i suppose is a range extender half way
tbh, u'd be as well just buying a router with better range coverage instead of buying little bits to extend it urself as reliability will continue to be an issue
With our Network...we had to buy a USB wireless aerial for the pc, as it didnt come with wireless to start with, as well as the router itself. Dunno if you have one or not, but I can get full signal about 20 metres outside my house...
If you need a ADSL router I have one sat here that you can have but it has no power lead, but I think you could salvage one from somewhere.
our router picks up over the roads network (bout 50metres away) lol
Netgear WGT624 (i think) - fairly decent for the price (think we paid £30 when we got it)

wirless is a funny media if you want better coverage leave the router next to the phone line and buy a 2nd and set it as a acress point on your network via cat5 cable set static IP on both router and acress point and this should work fine remember to set router on channel 2 and acress point on 6,9 or 12
If you want a decent Wireless Router.. Check these out..
http://www.kcorplifestyle.com/products/silverSeriesG2/KLS-6615/KLS-6615.htmI brought one and ive had no problems and the range is decent i can use it around my friends house.. Also the one i brought can support 25 PC's all at once.. I had my sister and a friend over the road use it and never noticed any speed difference but i recon if you downloaded torrents or used bbc iplayer or the later i recon cause of virgins shit speeds it'l get laggy but if its just for surfing and emails then id say go for that or buy dearer..
cheers, it is just the access point i was interested in really, as the range of the router didn't really matter. I was wondering if there was a general concensus as to the best manufacturer.
I was thinking Netgear.
netgear and linksys are both pretty good... some of the belkin stuff i find is good for the price but can be hit or miss (either works great or very badly) lol
I use TP-LINK 54M router and have never had any problems ,only 40 quid
Yer jonno your router is nice.. Its small and very easy to configure hehe
