Six genres will be moved to inhabit different channel number blocks entirely. They are believed to be lifestyle and culture, religion, music, shopping, gaming and dating.

Channels are expected to be informed of their new positions late next month and the changes will happen through the summer.

"In making these changes we believe we can improve navigability for customers, make more efficient use of available channel numbers and ensure that growing genres have the flexibility they need for future expansion," explained Nicola Bamford, Sky's director of channels and operations.

They need this since they have announced new EPG slot's will be limited in the future due to older boxes not being able to cope with much more load.
