Just been fiddling about in one of my servers and found out that it has been online for an entire year today haha!

Probably would have been almost 2 years but for a software update needing a reboot last year hehe.

Groovy baby! All hail ye Linux lol, its running Fedora! Not the best OS to run on a long-uptime enviroment but still!

Tis a lil Dell PowerEdge Pentium III 933Mhz with 256MB RAM and a 9GB SCSI btw haha probably about 8 years old!!!

OMG, and I actually thought having my laptop on for a few days without rebooting was cool!

Well just noticed this thread whilst looking for something and thought I would check it again... still aiming for 2 years, next milestone will be 1.5 yrs though:

Well... after 8 years of solid service, this server, along with its two brothers (all three are Dell PowerEdge 1550, PIII 933Mhz, 256MB, 9GB SCSI's running Fedora) is going to be retired and replaced before the end of 2008. The only reason for this is age and due to the new servers being more energy efficient. And I for one will be sad to see them go, ive long been a believer in "don't try and fix something that isnt broken" but the older it gets, the more likely it is to break!

Although it still has some clients on it, I will probably need it removed from the rack next week to make space, so it might not hit 2 years although ill try and hold out lol!

Who says Dell's arnt reliable haha!! I have had a fair few modern Chenbro's and SuperMicro's need replacing over the years, whilst these have been working sweet as a dream, and they don't even have APC's on them!!

We have a few Dells that are used as remote access servers and I recon some have been running non stop for 3-4years now omg

Main machines we use are Sun Servers - had a few Ent 6500's last over 12 months, though is generally discs that fail first due to how much use they get....

Oooooo Sun kit, very nice! Then again, I guess that type of stuff is just standard issue at enterprise level!!

Im replacing them with Dell PowerEdge R300's which should be much more efficient, but really I wanted to get some running the ultra energy efficient Intel Atom, I am rather surprised they don't do them as yet!! In this day and age of high energy prices, they would be a great option imho.
