anybody that has hacked their iPhone to allow them to use a chosen network will own an inoperable phone if they install the update (i think - that's how i picked it up anyway)

We`ve just been given an apple mac what are hey like? do they run windows?
(not picked it up yet)

Hmm it arn't windows that it runs. They got their lil own os thingy.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: bad move by apple? - 1st Oct 2007 3:59pm
nope, they are different hardware from PC's, although that gap is now starting to close since they started using x86 varient based CPU's last year instead of RISC CPU's.

They run MacOS, the current series being MacOS X or better know nowadays as simply OSX. I think the latest release is Tiger (aka MacOS 10.4), but Leopard is out soon to replace it (aka MacOS 10.5).

Its a lovely OS is OSX, although MacOS 9 and earlier were good, OSX has made inroads on the dominence of Microsoft Windows, and is more secure, more reliable and more efficient, although obviously it also has drawbacks, the main being lack of software availablility, which has gotten better over recent years.

You can actually get Windows XP to run on a mac (provided its an intel processor), but I wouldnt recommend it no
Posted By: MattLFC Re: bad move by apple? - 1st Oct 2007 5:06pm
The question WHY would you want Windows to be running on a Mac?? If you have a Mac, you wont want to be running Windows raftl
Posted By: BMW Joe Re: bad move by apple? - 1st Oct 2007 5:57pm
you sure wouldnt, but it can be done
Posted By: MattLFC Re: bad move by apple? - 1st Oct 2007 6:00pm
Obviously, anything can be done lol. But you just wouldnt want to.

You can run MacOS on an x86, even MacOS 9 can be run on it, but again, you wouldnt want to lol.

Only thing with Mac OSX, If something goes wrong with a Application program, it quite often requires an OS restore, as patches and reinstally and disk permissions fixes don't seem to do anything.

Mac OSX is brill, but it has some very odd and annoying problems from time to time.
