Nothing actually that wrong with it, thank god. What it is, the camera cannot transfer files/act as a external USB drive like it should.

The weird thing is, the PC see's the camera and knows its connected. The camera knows it connected too, because the USB screen comes on.

But the camera doesnt show up in "My Computer" like it should, and there is no way of actually accessing it.

It probably a bit confusing, but basically it connects fine according to the PC and the camera, but the PC doesnt actually see the camera.

Thought it might just be me laptop, so I tried it on the media centre and got the same result. It is usually automatically seen by both.

Its not the end of the world of course, as the camera itself is still fine and working 100%, just the reading of the data by the PC is at fault somewhere.

Im lucky me printer takes XD cards cos me memory card reader dont lol.

Gonna contact Fujifilm about it on Monday.

Have you tried a different usb lead, this happened with my printer which has a built in card reader.

the printer showed up as being connected and ready to print, but would get a communication error when trying to print, couldnt see the memory cards either. so we changed the a-b usb lead to a higher grade and hey presto.

Yep, tried 3, including the one off me MiniDV camera, tested two of em with the DV camera too and they worked fine.

Hmmm,i had same problem with my phone a month or so back, turned out to be a driver conflict with something else i had installed but with you saying you tried it in your media centre unit and it was the same result i would say your best getting it checked out mate frown

Yeah, will be phoning Fujifilm tomorrow. I could understand the laptop if that had an issue, as its used every day, but the media centre is hardly ever used and never gets any changes made to it. Its also me backup to me laptop so I dont install anything much on it other then whats already on there. So its really weird lol.
Posted By: _Ste_ Re: Me Camera Broke! - 23rd Sep 2007 11:31pm
Dont suppose the camera has an internal backup battery?
Reason i ask is maybe by removing the battery for a minute or two, you may reset it to factory settings and this may help think
Just a thought smile
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Me Camera Broke! - 23rd Sep 2007 11:32pm
Lol, I removed the battery overnight hoping it would be summit like that, but didnt work frown

They had to be removed anyway for half an hour after shooting the QE2 to be charged back to full again.

Ste do this please wink
And let me know the results.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Me Camera Broke! - 23rd Sep 2007 11:40pm
On my account I have it setup for more posts per page then standard. So the second page only began for me with the reply about the battery idea.

It was in posting the reply that the issue cropped up, as the reply was posted, it went onto page 2 for me and the original post was duplicated ahead of it.

Weird stuff goin on I tell ye!

Well I have no lodged a warranty repair request with the details of the faults, they will respond to me when they have worked out what action to take next (most likely bring it in for investigation/repair).

Will update how it goes.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Me Camera Broke! - 26th Sep 2007 1:32pm
Oh great, got an email just telling me to send it to them to a certain address, and to pay for it to go via special delivery.

Not really too happy with that, they should have service centres where you can drop it off, its going to cost a tenner to send the bloody thing!!

frown
Posted By: Mark Re: Me Camera Broke! - 26th Sep 2007 4:22pm
Hopefully you will get it back pretty quick.
My last Fuji went on Monday and had it back Friday.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Me Camera Broke! - 26th Sep 2007 4:24pm
Well its under the repair or replace scheme. So if it comes back with a fault, or they replace it with another faulty unit, they will be paying the postage for me to send it back again.

I dont think they realise how much Special Delivery costs!!
Posted By: Mark Re: Me Camera Broke! - 26th Sep 2007 5:47pm
Out of the Scheme it would cost you £70 for them just
to look at it then your delivery on top.

= Camera in the Bin frown

May as well get a new one lol
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Me Camera Broke! - 26th Sep 2007 5:49pm
Why would I throw a camera in the bin that works lol?? Its only the memory card reading remember, the actual camera is fine, I can get a CF - XD adapter for my memory card reader if the worst comes to the worst hehe (or continue to use me printer, but its far too slow for long term use).

doh

Out of the scheme i said wink
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Me Camera Broke! - 26th Sep 2007 5:55pm
Yeah, I know that, but if it was out of warranty, surely you wouldnt throw a cam away that worked fine except for the memory card reading, given that a memory card reader would do the same job?

That would be like throwing away a Ferrari just because the spare wheel was broke lol. Hmmm maybe im rating the 6500 too high comparing it with Ferrari's grin

smile
Posted By: Mark Re: Me Camera Broke! - 26th Sep 2007 6:06pm
£70 to look at it
£15 Delivery
£50 Estimated Repair

£135 In 1 year may as well think about a new camera
before you waste £135 on a repair.

Assuming its something with the action of the camera
and not just something you can live with.

That's all.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Me Camera Broke! - 26th Sep 2007 6:08pm
Yeah I get ye fella smile
Posted By: MattLFC Re: Me Camera Broke! - 27th Sep 2007 11:45pm
Lol, tis rather weird, its started being seen again without any problems by both the laptop and media centre.

Still gonna send it in though, they cant try n charge me n say they couldnt find a fault as it has a dodgy video sensor (small white dot on dark video's) so that will be at fault no matter what.

smile
Posted By: _Ste_ Re: Me Camera Broke! - 28th Sep 2007 7:04am
how long have you had it? if its under a year you can take it back the shop for a replacement smile
Posted By: Mark Re: Me Camera Broke! - 28th Sep 2007 9:40am
I don't think you can after 28 days. (Swop / Exchange)
