Wait until Pinz sees that train. He'll give himself a hernia, with excitement.

Spot on granny! Yep a great picture (imho). Taken late 1956 shortly before withdrawal. I have a copy of that photo. Many happy memories of when I was a nipper riding on them to L'pool with Mum & Dad.. Built in 1903. Known as Westinghouse stock. Slam doors, huge comfy seats, "Smoking Saloon" and Mersey Railway crest etched in the glass of internal sliding doors, flickering bare lightbulbs. Traction control operated by compressed air - what a memorable noise. Above all, they never seemed to break down or fail in service. Built like brick outhouses!

I could go on, but nurse is coming with my warm milk!

Thanks for the pics Zip. I'll let you know how the hernia op. goes.

Any details on the bus numbered 99?

Can't tell from the picture but it may be a Wallasey corporation transport vehicle.

@Paintboffin... Yes, a Wallasey bus indeed. The "HF" reg. is the clue. I think it was called "The Shoppers Bus" or something similar. Can't recall if it survived into MPTE days or not. I've got a fleet book with some bumf on it somewhere. Just got to FIND it !!

Another pic of the bus...

Looks like it did pass into the MPTE.

You need to take things easy Pinz. We wouldn't want you reaching your terminus too soon.

Never mind the bus,I can see The Boot Inn!!!Many a happy pint or three in there, both pre 18 and after.
Strange though,I don't remember that bus at all.Working away when it entered service, not the effects of the pub! grin

Ahh yes indeed in did, you can see the MPTE logo and the MPTE blue in the above photos.

I was transferred to Seaview Road Wallasey from Laird Street Birkenhead when MPTE moved the paint shop in 1972 which is probably why I don't remember the bus, perhaps is was gone in 1972 although it's definitely there in 1970 according to the flicker photos.

Bus 99 is actually parked opposite the paint shop(not shown)in Seaview Road, it is parked next to a ramp seen to the right of the bus.
Anyone remember what the ramp was used for?

How nice to see some rare photos of Seaview road depot too.
Love to see more of them.

Love this one of Dingle, some of my family live just up on the left up the slope. The comedy "Bread" was filmed in the next road to them. The train runs underneath thier house and you can actually hear it.

Best Paintshop super imposed pic was that of a Liner/Ship placed shore side of Perch Rock. The water would not be deep enough for a liner. Cant find the picture/postcard but I`ll post it when I find it.

i prefer that house with its original brickwork, windows and frames.

That pvc windows and outside rendering takes away the charactor of the property.

Wonder why the jolly sailor was dolished?
