There was H A Clegg and sons, Stonemasons, Chester, this company had an input on the Birkenhead War Memorial, Hamilton Square.
There was a firm of Monumental masons on Holt Hill but I haven't found the name Clegg associated with them yet.

Maybe home addresses were:-

James Hamilton (stonemason), 14 Park Road, Higher Tranmere
Samuel W Hamilton (stonemason), 40 Mount Grove

But still no link to Clegg for me.

So far I've come across, James Hamilton snr, James Hamilton Jnr, Stonemasons and Robert James Hamilton, Quarry owner. No doubt many family connections in Stone masonry.
