Hi

I have only just found this site - so I am still exploring - thanks for this!

I was born in 1939 - at 2 Huskisson Street. The youngest of a large family of eleven - the Goodalls. My father was William and my mother Martha (nee Farley) but known to all as Molly - or 'Ninny Goodall' to all her many grandchildren.

Sadly, only one of my sisters (Jean) is still living - and is now 90. I am 78.

I am trying to write up some of our family - and local history - for my two daughters who grew up in Scotland (where my dad was born.

Obviously none of this area now exists! Some years ago I visited a cafe in the Pyramids - which was just about the area my bedroom had been when I was born!

So, I am trying to find as much local information as I can - about the area, local families - and especially if there are any members of the Goodall family - or the related Graham, Farley, Davies or Foster families - who read this wiki. I would like to make contact with anyone - or anyone who attended St John's Primary between 1944 and 1950 or Rock Ferry High between 1950 and 1958 - where I attended.

In particular I would like to source some local photos - especially of St John's Church, Grange Road in this era, St John's Primary School and Rock Ferry High

When I find out how - and if it is permitted - I can add my email address

Thanks

Alan Goodall

Now retired and living in the French Alps!

Hi Alan and welcome,

If you look in the Wirral History section,

Index of Pictures,
Wirral History Index

not complete but will help.
Hi Bertione
Thanks - will do

BTW I have just seen an old post to ask if there were any interments at St John's Church. It was opposite our house and I used to play (illegally) behind the wall. I was also a choir boy at the time of Rev Howarth. There were no graves there.

cheers

Hi

Just found this site with great photos

http://wirralmemories.co.uk/wm_index.php?wm_page=wm-road-grange-road-birkenhead.php
There used to be a big family of Goodalls that lived in Oliver Place in the 50s/early 60s Husband and wife Denny and Edna.
If you look on wiki history for the Oliver Street topic you'll see pics of St Johns school and in the grange road topic possibly see some pics you may recognise.
I have a very faint memory that someone called Charles? family lived in no2 that were relatives of the Goodalls I mentioned.
The only Goodall I see now and again is one of the sons young Denny Goodall may be about between 65/70 in age.

Hi

THANK YOU DEREK!

That was my older brother - Denny and his wife Edna. Yes, they had a large family - not quite as many as our ELEVEN! Those were the days!!!

I last met 'young' Denny - his son, at the funeral of one of my other brothers some years ago. Sadly, as with many families these days, we lost contact as some of us moved away across the globe to Europe, USA, Africa and Australia.

If you can tell any 'Goodall' you know to contact me via email (which should be in my profile) that would be fantastic. Just tell them it is 'Uncle Alan (or maybe Great Uncle) - the Gorilla man" and they will laugh!. I plan to come 'home' for a few days in July so would like to meet up with them!

I will now look at the Oliver Street topic - many thanks again Derek - and to the creators of this super site which is enabling me to take some wonderful trips down 'memory lanes' (maybe even the 'Flat lanes?) - that I left behind more than fifty years ago! I am now 78 and living in France. Maybe not for ever after Brexit though!

cheers

my own web site is

My nan lived at 2 Huskisson Street! She was there when I was very young and moved out when I was around 15 so that would be 1965-66 if I remember correctly. She moved to pensioners flats in Walker Mews by Abakhan's top of Derby road. Her name was Margaret McKeown.

I used to live in Wirral Street and visited her almost every day so I remember Huskisson Street very well. My sisters have all the old photos so I'll see if they have any of the street.
Sorry..as I posted this I remembered it was number 29 she lived not number 2 ...sorry..I'm getting old:-(
