If that's true, then we have another puzzle.
On the OS map and confirmed by the street directory, there were six houses on the north side, No's 2-12 and five on the south, No's 1-9. The street also sloped down towards central station.
I've counted at least ten front doors in that picture, with another two houses in the terrace off to the right. The land also rises to the right, which would make this the south side, which only had five houses.
Between each of the front doors is the mains feed cable which runs on the outside of the building. Each house has a gas pipe going to it. Therefore, it can't be a front door with a door to the side passage next to it.
Can you make out the house number on the door in the original picture?
In the picture I've attached, even the base of the gas lamp is different. The post at the other end of the street was to hold a one-way sign
