I was down at the stables yesterday, on Park Lane, Hoylake and we got to discussing drainage, as you do.
Now the Birkett flows parallel to the sea wall but the land in the area is below sea level. So how does it drain? We know that it runs alongside the railway line past Asdas in Bidston and assume that it leaves via the Docks somewhere, but these are above sea, or river level for most of the tide.
I did read somewhere that the Birkett, and the Arrowebrook, used to be pumped out to the Mersey but that the pumping was discontinued.
How then does the Birkett get into the sea?
Ant information or recollections would be helpful.

the birkett runs into the great culvert at beaufort road and wallassey brigde road , runs down beaufort road underground and hooks a left a lincon street into the united utiilites filter staition and into cavendish dock , it is cleamer than the dock water it flows into as it is treated prior to going into the dock
