I'm sure that someone can put me out of my misery and tell me the name of the now boarded up pub on the Dock Road Wallasey, it's located on the opposite side of the road to the old spillers buildings, towards the junction of Kelvin Road.
Think it was the stork then bonkers.
It was the 'Swan Hotel' in it's day. Then became 'The Stump' and finally 'Bonkers' before it closed.
thanks for that both of you.

It was the Stump , then the Swan , then Bonkers ......
the blazing stump to be precise
I worked in the pub when it was the Swan, loved it!
It was packed every friday and saturday night, always had live bands on too.
I hate driving past it now seeing it in the mess that its in.
didnt it get its name from story about a man with a wooden leg getting burnt, hence his blazing stump.sure i heard that somewhere
Oddly, it was originally called "The Swan", but everyone called "the stump" or "the blazing stump" as it was alleged that an elderly man used to poke the fire with his wooden leg, which caught fire on one occassion.
The pub was later renamed "the stump" to reflect the local's name for it, whereupon some people started calling it "The Swan" out of sheer cussedness....
It later it bacme "Bonkers" - the beginning of the end.
i played in a band there when steve prescot was the boss i have seen the old sign that was hung up outside of an old sailor poking the fire with a wooden leg that was on fire whatever name they called the pub over the years it was allways known as the stump
