Hi,

I've joined this site to find out if anyone knows who I should contact as I think I have found some interesting things in my garden in Greasby. We are having an extension so there has been some digging.

Thanks.

The best people to contact would be the Field Archaeology Unit at Liverpool Museums. The current Head of Field Archaeology is Dr Rob Philpott and he can be contacted on 0151 478 4337.

it's some pottery pieces and a coin which might be roman. Does the liverpool guy cover Wirral or is there a wirral person as well?

I seem to recall Grosvenor Museum in Chester used to have a day when you could take things in to be identified - don't know if they still do it. Might be worth phoning them to check.

Best bet would be to contact the the local Finds Liason Officer for the Portable Antiquities Scheme, according to the PAS website that'd be Vanessa Oakden:

[email protected]

Incidentally I'm an archaeologist, Roman stuff not really my period but, like the other posters, would love to see some pics.

Hi GreasbyGurl,

Welcome.

I've sent you a PM - see 'My Stuff' at the top of the page.

It would be really nice to see photos of your finds.

Is the extension now completed or is the dig still open?

The expert on Roman Wirral, Dr Rob Philpott, will give a talk at Greasby library on 6th Feb 2012 - details.
Advance booking is strongly advised.

Dear Greasby Girl, If it's any help to you I'm an archaeologist and my specialism is Roman and prehistoric pottery. I also know a bit about coins. Have you had them identified yet? If not I could do that for you.
Thanks
