does anyone have anything on the histroty of birkenhead fire brigade? in particular anything to do with solomon hellon butler- 1901 census info- think he may have been an enginner rather than a fireman

Just had a look at this gentleman's 1901 census form and it clearly states Fireman, Fire brigade, I think they put Fire Brigade as not to confuse with Fireman ie stoker or someone who supplies a boiler with coal. Can I ask what leads you to think he was an engineer.

sorry to sound like a divvy but how do u find the cencus for certain years? is it as simple as google it or do u have to pay the sites to view information xx thanks xx

You can look some up in the library (central). You can also access them by joining ancestry but it ain't cheap.

On the 1911 Census form he describes his occupation as "Fire Brigade Engineer", living at 14 Dale Street, Birkenhead.
