Does anyone know where this picture is taken? I am stumped. The sender thinks its New Brighton but I am not 100% sure on that as I don't recognise the "folly" castle turrent in the background. I thought Leasowe Castle grounds...

(tips screen over)

"Victoria Road, New Brighton"

Again though, I don't recognise that "building" in the background c1920. The riders by the way are the Kinghams who owned a number of shops and businesses in New Brighton.

I would say definitely not Leasowe Castle. Their turret is a different shape and not square. Not Victoria road to my knowledge anyway where was there open space to ride horses like that in Victoria road? Perhaps that is just the address of The Kinghams?

The Kinghams did own shops and clubs (Empress Ballroom) in Victoria Road. I agree that there is no common land/fields in Victoria Road or even the surrounding by this time as it was all built up. I actually think the picture is maybe further afield ie on the west side of the Wirral.

Its similar but there are slight differences with the window. Even 19th Century pictures have the windows blocked up.
