Does anyone know of or have pics from inside or outside of this club. Thanks
I've never heard of it. Where was it?
I am asking on behalf of someone else, he told me it was on the front in new brighton , the building is still there its the one that has a conservatory on it think its called the queens. He said he met his wife there 45 years ago.
It became the Golden Guinea now it's RJ's.(Players Lounge)
Guess what Sue?? - I met my wife there nearly 50 years ago!!!!
It was then owned by a John Stanley - believe he had a cafe in New Brighton also

hey Sue...........see attached. I used to go there a lot a good few moons ago. And also the Queens next door.
How many of you remember the clubs in New Brighton during the early 60's. Here is a picture of the Kraal Club sent in by Lesley Swift.
The Kraal competed with many other clubs such as The Toledo. The Defiants played there along with other famous merseyside bands at the time.

The Kraal - ha, happy memories of a couple of (45 I guess) years ago. May have been even earlier.

Can't remember a club called Toledo (that competed with the Kraal), apart from a small none drinking one in Egerton/Mason street which was under the Crackers club. Lots of us kids used to go there in the early sixties.

When did it become rjs? says rjs on entrance on the right.
Anyone remember Derry Wilkie and the Pressmen at the Kraal.
They really got my mojo workin'. Met my first wife there.

Thanks for welcome. I lived on ormiston rd ( off seabank rd ) from about 1952 to about 1966. Went to vaughan rd school
The Kraal, what a great place that was!! It reminded me a bit like the Cavern only smaller and not so smelly. Used to be some great birds their - Oh sorry is this a P.C, site. I remember eating in the cafe that John Stanley owned and sitting across the aisle was Tony Crane from The Merseys, c'mon you all remember Sorrow. Not sure if they were on that night.
my friends husband was in the pressmen bob pears.so guess she was in there all the time .don't know a great deal about them ,i know they from wallasey and went to germany with the beatles.
I remember one night John Stanley had a brand new 'fruit machine ' installed. It went wonky and paid out the jack pot for nothing ( drugs for free ). Off to the Grand for a table full of halfs
"Those where the Days"
Ahhh the Kraal ........oh what memories perhaps in the sixties
THE BEST club in wirral my own band 'The Vampires'played there

Bring on the memories !!!!
Just to add if any of you are fans of 'Spotify' the music site
there are 72 tracks of Jackie Lomax on there....some really great
stuff to be enjoyed,,,,simply type his name in the search box and chill
Any one got any pics then of the kraal club.

or any other stories.
Didn't Bob Pears work at Levers before he left
to play full time?
I used to go to the Kraal with my mate and
around half eleven there was always a
debate wether to cut your losses and go
for the last bus or hang on and see if
you could tap off.
If that failed it was a long cold walk
home.
I think John Stanley had Weavers Cafe on
Victoria Rd. Took a girl there for breakfast
after an all night session in the Kraal.
We were really sophisticated those days.
Met my wife in the Kraal and had many
friend who went there.
The Kraal Club I knew was in Albion Street at the juction with Montipelier Cresent and near where the phone box is. It had an entrance to a cellar in the Albion Street but and had what looked like a big egg carton with 'Kraal Club' wirrtin in red on a white background. It was knocked down in the 60's and was just grass until a few years ago when it was built. It's possible that it moved to the front but there was definitely a Kraal Club where I said. never went in as I was too young but I rememebr passing it every day coming home from school.
I remember the club well, but when I used to go in the early 1960s it was called the Witches Cauldron.
Does anyone have any pics.
