smile Anyone see in the paper about the Bidston Observatory? A man is living there for something like £59 per week rent, apparently its to give security to the place whilst its empty. Id love to do that. The company doing this is Ad Hoc who specialise on these types of rentals. Looks really good. He lives in the roof space where all the telescopes used to be and he wakes up to a lovely view all over Wirral and Cheshire he says! Its supposedly cheaper that employing a firm of security guards.

Theres a few people renting rooms in the observatory. Dont suppose theres any harm in asking. Youd get a brilliant view up there, good luck.

Dunno Rude, have a look on Ad Hoc property website. All the empty, historical buildings on Wirral should do this, then they wont get wrecked by vandals

i heard about this recently it came up in conversation, very interesting opportunity, cheap rent and all you have to do is be there to open the place to the public sometimes?

Dunno if you have to open up to the public, just be there on a residential basis to deter trouble makers, robbers etc. No dogs allowed or children though, so probably suited to single people, or couples with no kids.

well i can tell you 1st hand as a guardian of the observatory i have lived here for aprox 2 months now.
it is a company called camerlot(as in the lottery) that is looking after the building and we are called guardians we are not to act as security guards but are there to keep the building from vandalls ect as empty building do become deralict quite quickly.
yes the views are amazing but it has its down sides as well no running water in your room or kitchen facilitys.
shared toilets and shower ect its just basicaly a bare office room that you rent and live in you can make it as homley as you can and i have tried my best to do this.
its nice to look out of the window and see right across liverpool one side and new brighton/sand hills the other side. and the view on the roof is totaly amazing.
i do find myself sitting in the window for hours looking at the ships comming and going and the wild life is great. its also interesting to people watch as the is a constant tribe of people daily on walks.
another down side is the fire's around the hill the is usually about 3 to 5 a day now the weather is getting better kids usually setting them frown just wish they would realise the destruction they are doing.and they are killing the wild life already affecting the birds of prey as they have not been hunting up here as much since the fire's and the fire men could be attending a serious fire instead of being up here all the time. lol sorry started to get side tracked on a rant then hahahaha

Thanks jfoxy, its always good to get some first hand information.

Any chance of a gang of us doing a visit to get a few pictures/videos of the view and/or the building?
