Hi gang i hope someone can help me out on this plaque in the graveyard. i have never seen it before and its in dutch!
me dutch is a bit rusty! 2 words i know are vaderland{homeland} and overleden{deceased} and the date of death! the rest mends nothing too me? also would like to know if he died in his homeland why is his plaque here?

HOseman to the rescue. Spent half of my teenage years in Holland!

DIED IN SERVICE TO HIS COUNTRY
BORN IN ROTTERDAM 31st MARCH
DIED IN BIRKENHEAD SOUTH
25th AUGUST 1940

it reads something like, Died in service/duty of his/her homeland.
born in amsterdam in .... then died in birkenhead

I have checked my records of deaths in Birkenhead relating to air raids and he isnt mentioned!

That is not Australian Field Of Honour it is Netherlands field of honour.

How strange, it does now say Netherlands, yet when i first seen it, Australian was the only word i understood before translation. I thought they were maybe dutch migrants.
