I have an old photograph of my grandfather Jack Allen. Thats him standing in the middle of the second row from the back. I was wondering if anybody recognises the photo or knows anything about it. Maybe you recognise somebody. It seems to be some social event as some of the men are holding pint glasses. Jack lived in Neptune Street Birkenhead.

Do you have any idea how old this picture is? Or around what year? I'm almost sure that my uncle is one of the men in the front row. Old pictures are so difficult to age. Unfortunately he passed away just a few months ago but if i show the picture to my mother she may know something.

Thats great stegga. My grandfather died in 1956 aged 64. Looking at him in the photo he must be in his 40s so maybe pre war.

Just thought. My grandfather was a seaman for a long time but I think he worked on the docks in later life. Could the photo be of dockers?

Don't they look a "Decent" bunch of blokes, compared to what a modern picture might look?

Really? I have photographs from the 1900's that are on their way, one of the photographs is quite large portrait one maybe A2 size.

Picture looks a bit like, maybe, a pub bowling team. I've got a similar one with my grandad on.

What's that on the guys lapel on front row, second from left?

I never met my grandfather he died before I was born but from I have heard about him I dont think I would have liked him much. I think it was the result of a hard upbringing in the Industrial School.

Hi Mrallen, i showed my mother the picture and she said although it does look like him, it definately isn't him. Sorry about that, she could see where i was coming from with the likeness though. Good luck anyway.

Thanks for your help Stegga. I thought somebody might know somebody and it would be great to share the photo with them. Thinking about it, it is probably just a bit too old to expect people to recognise anybody. The men are probably all dead and so are their wives and their children are probably of an age that dont use the internet. You live in hope.

Bandycoot. Is that a confirmation?

I spotted Peter Reid, then noticed John Hartson almost behind him, Kenny Dalglish 3rd left on second row, Dixie Dean back row left and it just must be Peter Crouch back right.
Any more suggestions? This could be one hell of a team.
