hi all, just been looking on e-bay for something and came across this book, anybody got any idea what the picture on the front is supposed to be or where? looks like a beach to me.
Looks like a war scene on a beach to me. Maybe it's something to do with fort perch rock in New Brighton?? just a thought?
its the chimney in the background thats throwing me,there is the possibilty that the picture has nothing to do with wirral but the author liked it anyway lol.
The picture is "Laying the Foundation Stone of Birkenhead Docks" H.F.Oakes, 1844. It is reproduced by permission of Williamson Art Gallery and Museum, Slatey Road, Birkenhead.
Excellent book by Stephen Roberts, who grew up in Greasby.
I've often wondered what it represented too...................
I guessed New Brighton as well.
Greasby lads correct, beat me to it!!!
Got this book, good read and loads of local histore of the wirral!
I paid £18.99 for mine, so if its cheaper (inc postage of course!) then get it!!
i'll have a look out 4 it on eBay, when i get more money in bank account
