Any adults out there none swimmers or none confident in water?

I was a none swimmer til a while ago....Im 46 and never swam a stroke in my life!!!!
It has always put a damper on holiday activities and leisure not swimming. Dont get me wrong, im not afraid of water, quite confident. I will go in the pool all day or even into the sea as long as i can touch the bottom. Not a problem for me most of the time as im 6` 2" tall and the last pool holiday it was 4` deep max!!
Still dont swim tho and had to walk round. I can happily do my martial arts excercises in the pool etc!

I always promised AFTER every holiday to take lessons but felt a little embarassed to do....46 and cant swim!!
After the last hols I took the plunge and signed up at Ginea Gap Baths in New Brighton (Seacombe/Wallasey??)
I go there because they have the lessons on a Sunday afternoon which is great for me working all week.

The instructors are great, understanding and very encouraging. No pressures and you move at your own pace. I just follow exactly as they ask and I have improved leaps and bounds. I cannot beleive I have been missing out on this all my life. I have done well because of my confidence in water I think.
We have a private pool, seperate and behind closed doors from the public, which I think has also helped me because of my embarassment!

Well, I am 46, today I swam 34 widths unaided in an hour, and its only my 4th lesson!!!!
party

Anyone interested should give it a go. Great excersise, my body aches to hell and I feel GREAT!!!!

All the leisure centres do them, just the times suited me. The class before mine is for stroke victims 1.00 - 2.00. I normally get there early and hop in with them for the last 10 mins. All very relaxed in rules, but not safety. Everyone gets armbands the first time in whatever your level of swimming. Some in my class just do it for excersise away from the main pool, heart attack victim there and arthritus sufferer!
If you are going to be attending often you can get a Wirral Sports and leisure Passport which can be used in any leisure place in the Wirral and can save you a fortune.

Thanks for the words of encouragement peeps, only mentioned it incase there were others like me, should have, would have could have done it years ago but `Never got round to it`!!!!
