I'm not too sure why this is being talked about only now.. it has been going on since 1989 when Wirral Council took over shirt sponsorship from Champion Spark Plugs.

It was also featured on the Jeremy Vine show - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01fqrm6/Jeremy_Vine_Jeremy_discusses_fracking/ (1:09 in)

Wheels within wheels isn't it? Basically is stinks of 'deals'.
Didn't Park Hampers own Cheshire Lines Buildings prior to WMBC?
....and did all the alloted tickets go only to staff members? Maybe family and friends joined them, who knows???
I believe there could be a can of worms to be opened with this council, going back years. There seems to have been alot of 'goings on' in departments and not everyone who needed to be, was necessarily aware.
Just listened to the Jeremy Vine prog.
The gentleman was saying that it helps promote Wirral !! I would assume it would come out of the Leisure and Tourism budget. Why should Wirral Council need promoting. If it helps to promote Wirral as an area, then the Tourism Office did that very well for many years until in 2007 when it was closed. There had to be cuts in the department which resulted in the loss of jobs. I'm quite sure the salaries didn't amount to anything like £125,000.per annum. So if there had to be severe cuts, why did this sponsorship of Tranmere Rovers continue anyway?
Keep your eyes peeled for the Golf and the expenses surrounding that little affair again.Did the last championship put Wirral on the map in 2006 and bring business? Don't think so, but Hoylake got a nice roundabout and so did Arrowe Park! Which incidentaly, on th busiest morning of the 'week'(Friday) during the Golf Championshipst, the new taffic lights failed and one policeman was directing with queues going back beyond junction 4 on the motorway. Great!
