Tranmere Rovers to host all of Liverpool's reserve team games next season

TRANMERE Rovers will host all of Liverpool's reserve team fixtures in the 2009/10 season.

The Premier League side's reserve team will play all home league fixtures at Prenton Park throughout the season including games against the likes of Everton, Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City.

The arrangement will mean some of Liverpool's rising stars playing regularly in Wirral.

Tranmere Rovers' chief executive Mick Horton said: "We are delighted to be able to host Liverpool's home reserve fixtures next season and look forward to welcoming them to Prenton Park.

"It will be a good opportunity for any Wirral based Liverpool supporters to come to Prenton Park and watch some of their talented youngsters in action."

Liverpool's reserve side play in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North and currently play ten home matches a season, all of which are played in midweek with evening kick offs. They are now managed by former Tranmere coach John McMahon.

John said: "I'm delighted we've been able to come to this arrangement with Tranmere Rovers.

"I spent eight very happy years working at Tranmere. It is a great club with great facilities and I hope we will see some good results for the Liverpool reserves."

When Liverpool's reserve fixtures are announced, they will appear on both clubs' websites.

Nice little earner!
More congestion without the area residents having any say, why were Tranmere ever allowed to reduce the size of their car park? - ludicrous.

They should have moved out of town years ago, down by the M53/A41 junstion would have been a good spot. I still can't believe we have motorway junctions without business parks surrounding them - council know better.
Im sure if you find the money for them to move to a brand new stadium, they will at least consider it.

If they used public money towards it, the residents of Tranmere, amongst others, would have a moan about that too.

And lets be honest, it's reserve games, they used to hold them at the Deva and the Racecourse (okay the latter is comparable to Prenton Park, but Deva is tiny), and they had no problems with congestion. The matches arnt exactly going to attract big crowds, 95% of the crowds will be tiny.
This is where I think tranmere should have their stadium. Right off the end of the Motorway, less than a mile from tunnel and just down road from Birkenhead North train station plus loads of room for parking.

yeah nice idea's folks, but if Liverpool can't even find the funding for a new stadium, what hope do Tranmere have? besides which, Prenton Park is a good stadium, decent capacity and lively atmosphere, why should Tranmere have to move? and the residents can eff off as well, they shouldnt buy houses near a football stadium if matchday congestion is that much of a worry for them, i mean its common sense lol.

Yes - but the cars haven't (most people didn't drve to matches) AND prenton park used to have a massive car park, with room to expand cheaply.

Tranmere did have a chance to move to a new site, but they turned it down - at the time they were primarily looking Willaston way, but if someone had opened their eyes a bit ...

A stadium for tranmere would be a fraction of the cost that liverpool/everton are looking at - their training facilities would cost more than a whole Tranmere setup. Prenton park land is highly saleable - people have tried to buy it before.

I like Beaty's plan - but that land is well and truley earmarked already.
