i do not think it is hd although it does have ports on the back which could fool one into thinking so.

When it comes to HD, I know you dont think its HD Ready, but does it have the ability to display things at high res (ie. PC resolutions).

Can u plug an external sound system into it?
Posted By: _Ste_ Re: FOR SALE: 42" PLASMA TV - 14th Apr 2007 2:18pm
Yes you can plug an external sound system into it.

in regards to mattyc`s question my lcd monitor was on 2048x1024 resolution, when i pluged in the plasma it was still on 2048x1024 & working fine.
I then changed the resolution to 1024x768 due to the writing being really small, when i restarted my pc windows recognised the plasma as a plug & play monitor & will no longer let me go over 1024x768.
Hope this helps smile

so go on, whats your asking price, and are there any scrates on the screen, remote or casing
Posted By: MattLFC Re: FOR SALE: 42" PLASMA TV - 15th Apr 2007 10:42pm
I wouldnt worry too much about scratches, plasma screens are glass and not plastic like LCD, so they tend to be pretty resistant to scratches, much like CRT's.

Like i said, offers (not just cash)

it has slight scratches on the left top casing which you cannot even see unless you look closely.

As for the screen and the rest of it, its mint, the screen has a plastic protection screen in front of it which i think is scratchproof anyway.

I was quite impressed with the sound out of it too, good bass with no vibration.

If you were to put this on your wall you would need proper brackets, dont let it`s size fool you, these wiegh a ton, the stand comes with this one.

What did you do to get the sound working again - was it repaired (recipt) or did it just start working again?

Turns out when the shop put it back together there where wires touching a circuitboard from the speaker outputs, this is what was causing the sound not to work and the constant "buzzing" noise that was coming from the speakers even when the sound was off.

I had it repaired and have a reciept, it had dry joints & a few resistors had blown.
This plasma does not have the annoying exhaust fans like most, so it is very quiet but still gets very hot so needs to be in a well ventilated area.
I asked the repairman if i should fit fans to it but he said its designed not to have them as to keep noise levels down.
He said it is normal for plasmas to get very hot & not to worry about it. wink

Did the shop mention who the manufacturer of the screen itself is by any chance??

Posted By: Sanchez Re: FOR SALE: 42" PLASMA TV - 16th Apr 2007 10:16pm
right, is it or isn t it hd
Posted By: MattLFC Re: FOR SALE: 42" PLASMA TV - 16th Apr 2007 10:29pm
He said it isnt matey. But it can display high resolution VGA. Either way, it certainly won't be 1080 HD as plasma's under 50" never are (summit to do with technological constraints).
Posted By: _Ste_ Re: FOR SALE: 42" PLASMA TV - 16th Apr 2007 10:33pm
well that ad reckons it supports 1080....

Progressive scan 480I/P, 720P, 1080<--- i thought this was the next gen hd??? (1080)

Doesn`t that mean its hd mattyc???

Grrr, right i`m off to see if i can find any drivers for it, lol.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: FOR SALE: 42" PLASMA TV - 16th Apr 2007 10:43pm
I didnt define it very well, I meant 1080p. It doesnt list on that site if its progressive or interlaced. If its 1080i (which I suspect as there are plenty of plasma's and LCD's capable of this), then this isnt the format being adopted by the market. 1080p is the future HD format to be adopted.

Also, make sure that set on the website is the exact same one. The best way to find the exact one is to google the model number. The inner workings are often changed from month to month, wheras the outer casing doesnt change very often.

I know when I bought an LG 32" LCD in 2005, I bought the RZ-32LZ50 and less then 2 months later, the LG RZ-32LZ55 was released (albeit a £100 more expensive) with full HD compatability, whereas mine was only only basic HD due to the XD Engine, and not defined as HD Ready due to limitations. The outer casing looked exactly the same though.

All i could find was this.

Fcuk it! lets just say its just a normal plasma. happy

On another note its screen pixels of WVGA 852x480 i think could in now way handle hd due to there not being enough pixels???
Posted By: MattLFC Re: FOR SALE: 42" PLASMA TV - 16th Apr 2007 10:46pm
Can your graphics card do HD matey? If so, you should be able to select a resolution of 1280x720 @ 60Hz for it to be 720p.

Make sure its 60Hz though, as if it says out of frequency past 30Hz, it means the screen is 720i.

Forget 1080, its far too complicated and very rarely used at present (I think the PS3 supports it, but SkyHD is only 720p).

Posted By: MattLFC Re: FOR SALE: 42" PLASMA TV - 21st Apr 2007 12:50am
Various sources, mainly the net, sometimes me dad who used to run a few TV/Video/Hifi repair shops down south (he filled my head with all the info one could give about HDTV and how it would be the future of television within the next ten years back in 1998, all because at the time I didnt know so much and I said I thought Plasma's were the future of TV's and picture quality etc haha!).

Lol, I was only erm 12ish and I think I had only red about them in one of me dads mags and thought wow they look boss lmao!

To be honest, the Plasma's are expensive to run, but they are cheaper to make then LCD's (and therefore ya get more screen size per pound), and although they can be unreliable at times, their not too bad. The one problem with them, is if you have the brightness turned all the way up, it shortens the life. So people lower it fair bit - which still leaves it brighter then any LCD on the market and of course they can display real blacks, something which LCD's can't.

Im trying to save this for sale thread by highlighting the plus points of them, lmao Joe.
