At the moment this is in the consultation phase, and the National Farmers Union are against this outright ban. The NFU are calling for improvements to export rules.

I suspect the NFU will get their way.

Don't understand the NFU. They say only a few thousand are shipped to Europe to be slaughtered.

They seem to have forgotten the thousands of others that are shipped to Europe for fattening up, transported to other countries and ending up in the Middle East and Africa.

What's wrong with them being slaughtered here anyway ? We here had New Zealand lamb for donkeys years, slaughtered in NZ and shipped to UK. Probably one of the biggest , if not the biggest trades, between NZ and UK. before we joined the ECC., and we all enjoyed a bit of NZ lamb, even if it had been in the ships freezers for 6 months !

We have a huge industry exporting tens of millions of chicks a year, we also import chicks from Ireland and perhaps other places.

Exporting for slaughter doesn't make economic sense, there must be some other "factors" if that goes on.

Exporting for fattening of land fed animals makes some sense if they go to warmer climes.

Overall I don't see any real need for exporting live animals in quantity and there are health risks in doing so. I also want more British food in our supply chain.

We also have a lot of horses exported for meat to Europe . It's a cruel business.

Tried to find what you refer to, but can't. Maybe that's a good thing in one way, I don't know, but I'm sure you witnessed more than your fair share, Casper.
