Granny that is so awful, that poor elephant .Im not surprised that zoos get a bad press when things

like that are allowed to happen . Endangered species should be protected not mistreated. Lets hope many many people send off the petition

This does not look good for Lucy.
Here is an article from Dec 2019 that states it would do her more harm than good if moved to another sanctuary.
They have already ruled out operating on her.
"She also has some issues with her molars. The report says they’re growing crooked and affecting the shape of her skull which affects her breathing. But, Galloway says, the risk of putting her under anesthetic to repair the teeth is that she likely won’t survive it and the surgery isn’t expected to make a drastic change to her condition."
I do despair for her future and they may even euthanise Lucy if her health deteriorates.

They want to make her comfortable in her old age ?

They should have made her comfortable years ago, including with companionship. This reminds me of Anne at Longleat and her sad story. They won't let her go either, it's a money maker for them. Anne at least does now have a new enclosure and a couple of goats to keep her company. Elephants are social animals and need their own kind to flourish plus in the wild they travel .

When seeing the elephants that are rescued in India from tourist elephants, logging elephants and begging elephants, many 60 yrs of age,
there has to be hope that Lucy could benefit. It seems to be the zoos that want to hold onto these poor, tragic animals. No purpose in life for them is there?

"" Elephants require vast spaces to roam, socialize, and express their natural behaviour. In the wild, they live in matriarchal herds and are active for 18 hours per day, foraging for fresh vegetation, playing, bathing in rivers, and travelling as far as 30 miles a day."" 9 Jun 2020

Hannibal crossed the Alps with the help of elephants. However, poor Lucy should be released to spend the rest of her life with other elephants somewhere warm. They can do this easily, just need the will.
