Found on Saturday wandering down Lansdowne Road/Tollemache Road near Claughton/Bidston a Male tri-colour Cavalier King Charler Spaniel.

He's a well, looked after and v friendly little chap, i'm sure someone is missing him. Think i've seen him being walked past my house but don't know him enough to know his owner.

Does anyone know who he belongs to? Picture attached.

Family in Bidston Ave have all their dogs accounted for. They don't recognise the little chap either.

Still searching for his owners, if anyone walks their dog in Flaybrick Cemetary or Bidston Hill (or around that area) please ask around if anyone is looking for him. Thank you

Have you spoken to the dog warden, Squirrel ? It says here :

If you find a dog, you must by Law report it to a Dog Warden. Outside normal working hours you may not be able to speak directly to a Dog Warden, and you may have to keep the dog until the Dog Warden’s premises are open. The Dog Warden may wish to see the dog to check if it has been microchipped, but if you are the finder and wish to keep the dog if it is unclaimed, it should be possible for you to keep the dog by arrangement with the Dog Warden, but you have to allow 28 days in which the owner can claim the dog before you can consider it yours.

The telephone numbers for the Dog Wardens are as follows:

Birkenhead (covering the Merseyside part of the Wirral): 0151-556 1220

Cheshire West & Chester (covering the Cheshire part of the Wirral): 0300 123 7038

Arrangements outside normal hours (i.e. evenings and weekends):

Birkenhead: If you cannot keep the dog until the Council Kennels are open, you can ring 0151-556 1220. You may then be expected to take the dog yourself to the kennels, where you will be met at an agreed time.

Cheshire West & Chester: Ring 0300 123 7035 to contact the Dog Warden. In evenings and at weekends, dogs go to Acorn Kennels, Heath Road, Whitchurch, SY13 2AA. Tel: 01948 662 931.

Hi Granny

Yes I contacted the dog warden on the day I found him. He's with Friends of Birkenhead Kennels at the moment. I had to do as best as I could to find his owner, I wouldn't feel as if i've given him a chance otherwise.

Lincle - yes FOBK scanned him on Saturday. He's chipped but the details are 2 years out of date.

How many times does that happen Squirrel,I wish people would update their address when they move. Its strange though that nobodys put a lost alert on facebook he looks well cared for. Well done for caring

This little dog has been on another forumn trying to find his owner, hopefully they will but if not he has no shortage of people wanting him. He is a little cutie.

Maybe tell the folk up at Tam O'Shanter farm that he's been found and share a picture? They have a Facebook page. Someone might go up there asking about him, it's in the right area.

If the owners were at all looking for him, you would think they would have put out notices on all the places on internet or even lampposts. It is surprising that no one appears to be looking for him.
You've done all you can squirrel but there is only so much possible. Well done , he's warm, fed and probably very comfortable right now. .

I'm not sure if Im stupid or just naive but it never occured to me that when FOBK cant find owners or new forever homes & the kennels are full they euthanase the dogs. I assumed they would send them to Dogs Trust as they say they never put a healthy dog to sleep. Its quite distressing.

Agreed granny, you would think that. The dog doesnt look like hes been lost for a long time , so if he is on 'DogLost' website, which is the national biggest I think, then I dont think the owner can be too concerned about finding him ? Pretty dogs are easy to rehome anyway , so this one at least will no doubt be fine . I dont know if Birkenhead Kennels euthanizes . I guess there might be no alternative after a while especially for the difficult/plain/ unruly/ snappy/ noisy ones. Very sad,

Just too many dogs being bred - especially as people have twigged its easy to make ridiculous money from designer (ie any mix you fancy and can find a silly name for, without all the hassle of paperwork being needed as it would be for big money pedigrees ,)

Birkenhead Kennels don't euthanize unless the dog has a really bad temperament but they do try their best with the dog first but they wouldn't want to place a dog like that with a family so sometimes it has to be done & they hate doing it but it doesn't happen very often.Only other time is if the dog is very sick. Some dogs go out to rescues for a better chance. My last 2 have been from there & if no one claims this little dog I'm sure it won't be long before it's rehomed.

Its not just lost dogs that go to the kennels, responsible owners who can no longer look after a much loved pet take their pets there expecting a new home will be found
but are they told the possibility that their pet may be put to sleep.

When I adopted Misty,it was still run by the council but it wasn't long after when the friends took over. They now do home checks & follow ups & I got asked what would I do if I couldn't keep the dog,I said bring her back pus go to breed rescues. They probably say that they might get put to sleep but they do have long stayers,my Misty had been a long stayer but they want to find the right homes for the dogs & some dogs they like it if you have breed experience plus handover dogs come with background information so can make it easier to rehome.

As I said this little dog has been on another site and people were pleading to be put on the list if owner not found so they could have him so sadly if owner not found he will be adopted pretty quickly I think..

I spoke to FOBK on Tuesday to check on him, they said they'd had a lot of interest in him so re-homing will be easy. I did knock on doors and have asked around all week as well as putting him on Dogs Lost etc. I'll drop in to Tam O'Shanter today to make them aware.

I hope this little chap has a happy life, he's such a sweetie.

Thanks Lincle, nice thing to say, although I'm doing what anyone can choose to do. When they can't speak we need to be their voice.
