Can anyone please tell me where I can take our cat for veterinary treatment at this time of day? I think he may have been poisoned. He's just come in, hardly able to walk. He went straight to his bed and lay down, then cried out and twice vomited clear fluid, (bile?)

My parents have him in a carrier basket ready to go, but where to? Does anyone know?

Thanks to you too for your reply diggingdeeper.

My Mum and Dad have just got back. They took him to Birkenhead Vets in Livingstone Street. They examined him, took his temperature and some blood samples.

But his condition worsened to the point that he was completely motionless and unresponsive, his eyes were glassy and just staring unfocused. Given that earlier he had seemed to be in pain, crying and vomiting, (or trying to,) my parents made the decision to end his suffering.

We are all heartbroken and in tears. We will miss him and his funny antics so much.

Thank you both for your advice and fast response. I wish I had better news to share.

I am so sorry about your cat. I have lost my beautiful girl 3 days ago so I know your pain.

I'm so sorry for your loss. All our fur babies break our hearts don't they? But it's a price worth paying for all the love, fun and wonderful memories they give us.

I'm very sorry to hear that it wasn't a good outcome.

I'm also sorry you didn't manage to get treated at the first vets you went to.

As it appears this may have been due to poisoning I would like to mention two things (though they may be totally unrelated to the above case).

Antifreeze used in cars is highly toxic to most animals (and plants), if you spill antifreeze PLEASE wash it down so it is very heavily diluted, it is very sweet tasting and smelling and is highly attractive to animals.

Rocksalt used on roads can also be toxic to cats and other small animals.

If you suspect a cat has licked/swallowed either of the above (even off its paws) it needs to be treated very quickly, apart from the initial symptoms of a very ill cat there is a risk to the kidneys if its not treated as soon as possible and tell the vets of your suspicions.

Why were you not treated at the first vets you went to and which vets was this ?

From what I can gather the first vets were up to their eyeballs with other cases and at the time the cat didn't look that bad so they suggested another vets who weren't so busy, it was thought that it would be quicker than waiting at the first vets as they are only 10 minutes apart.
