Does anyone know of a legal aid solicitor who will fight for vets costs?? My friends dog has been attacked twice by the same dog in the space of 1 yr.
My friend was walking her dog in the street (he was on a lead) when this dog rushed out of a front door and attcked and shook the dog (and wrapped his owner up in his lead causing her arm pain and bruising)The owner came out and agreed to pay the vets bill, but since then has gone back on his word . He will now not open his front door!! My friend is not working at the moment and has informed the police , who can do nothing as it is not a criminal offence and she has a letter from the R.S.P.C.A saying seek some advice either from the citizens advice or a solicitor. Anyone know of a solicitor who will fight for a dogs vet costs on legal aid????? bowdown

Surely this can be made a criminal case if your friends tells the police that she was assaulted (the pain and bruising to her own arm). Cant help on the solicitor though. Maybe go see a no win no fee, again over the pain and bruising to your friends arm. The solicitor may take on the vet bills claim at the same time.

Thanks for your response, It was her own dogs lead that wrapped around her arm as her dog was trying to get away from the dog that was attacking. I dont think she is worried about herself , its her dog, who she took straight to the vet and stuck his care on her credit card, which does not help as she was made redundant 4 yrs ago.
Thanks Paul.

Hi Angelina. dont you just hate it when irresponsible owners get away with stuff like this mad and responsible owners always have to pay makes my blood boil.
Hiekel_Essterol has given you the best advice it's just finding the solicitor to take it on as a legal aid case.
also, the police might not be able to do anything about the dog attacking your friends dog But......they should go and warn him. he has a dangerous dog and should be kept under control. Did your friend report it to them the first time it happened.

Hi Tilly , yes its been reported both times and the police are aware of him , but seem unable to do anything. Once a child gets involved it will be too late and its not the dogs fault!!The first time my friend was hurt quite badly too!! The owner of the dog refused to talk to her the first time, but this time he came out and got his dog away from them and agreed to pay vets costs. It appears ther are other incidents!! Her poor dog is nearly 13 and is now very scared to go out at all!

I would still suggest going to see a no win no fee. The fact that your friends injuries were caused by her own dogs lead should be easy to get around as the incident was unlikely to have happened had it not been for the other dog.

It would be like saying I cant claim from the other driver because it was my steering wheel that hit me in the head and not him.....if that makes sense.

Sounds like she is being threatened now she called round again and got an answer from the owners wife who said she was not going to pay vets bills and her husband would not be as friendly!
